We make so bold as to send you this typewritten text without any previous bond of personal friendship with you, trusting that, as you possess through other intimate information channels some ambiguous data about our existence on EARTH, you will at least pay attention to our greeting.

 

Allow us, Mr Antonio Rivera, to introduce ourselves without further pertinent explanations:

 

This letter is dictated by Xoodou sept. fils de Xoodou quatre and I am an individual element of a small social group, an expedition arrived on this solidified globe from another whose physical characteristics are similar to EARTH, whose approximate spelling could be rendered from the phoneme familiar to us, thus; Oumo ( “m” prolonged in pronunciation) Its position relative to that of the planet EARTH was, on eight- Juillet-1967 at 21h 18m. GMT, 14.421 light-years (apparent distance in the usual three-dimensional medium)

 

We are not, therefore, part of the human zoological group of this solidified globe.

 

This introduction, Mr Antonio Rivera, should be disconcerting to your mind, had you not received preliminary references attributable to other Earth brothers in Spain concerning our identity.

 

We invite you to assess all these data with impartiality and method within the operational logic known to EARTH. Do not forget that to accept an undoubtedly surprising revelation it must be accompanied by convincing proofs, avoiding those features of the matter which, through their brilliance and suggestiveness, may lead you into error.

 

Naturally, mere testimony set out through the postal channel and coming from some unknown men must never be adopted as valid. It is to be presumed, therefore, that we do not wish to distort your clear judgement, already formed in your mind, either for or against our identity. If you were consequently to adopt a hypercritical and even out-and-out sceptical attitude, it will always seem to us orthodox and intelligent.

 

It will surely be a surprise for you to learn that in the month of April 1965 brothers of mine resident in Spain included your name together with those of your brothers.

 

Now we wish to address a plea to you, far, therefore, from any hidden intention of coercing you. For this we invoke only your reason and your spiritual sensitivity. Not even respect for some beings whom you do not know and who might therefore be impostors.

 

We invite you to analyse this point and its objectivity. If we are indeed impostors, madmen, pranksters or members of an earthly military organisation, sect, or religious, scientific or commercial group, any testimony of yours vouching for our identity, once “unmasked”, would discredit your good name.

 

If our testimony is indeed orthodox, faithful to objective reality, a spreading of the news on a geopolitical scale would be extremely delicate for earthlings, generating uncontrollable alarm among brothers, and causing us serious upheavals, as we would be obliged to evacuate this solidified globe, abandoning a peaceful mission of study.

 

A third hypothesis, so that this judgement may not present sophistical features, could be developed by you: that our intentions conceal, under a fine garment of peaceful practice, warlike plans or plans of extermination against your institutions and the inhabitants of this terrestrial globe.

 

Observe that, if that were so, our messages, and this very missive, would have no explanation. Any brother of yours specialised in military logistics would advise you that the most absolute secrecy would be an indispensable premise for that fanciful supposition.

 

Do these considerations serve our cordial plea? We have no objection to your making allusions, in your own publications or in your statements to the media, to our existence, institutions, culture, religion, origin... or to your inserting fragments of our writings and reproducing our graphics, always respecting the fidelity of the transcription.

 

We only ask that, when giving your own judgement on our problematic identity and on the suitability of our testimonies, you do not strive to back it with positive criticism, that you always feign a certain moderate degree of scepticism, and that you refrain from endorsing your own transcriptions with convincing arguments.

 

And do not forget that the leaking of certain data to state bodies may cause us serious harm.

 

Real support will be offered you in the unlikely event that the spread of such news provokes an undesirable social ferment. It would then not be difficult for us to simulate the fraudulent nature of these testimonies, efficiently discrediting them. Your good name would remain unharmed.

 

Receive, Mr Antonio Rivera, my respectful greeting. I hope you will receive our news as soon as we are authorised by those who make up our hierarchy.

 

Mr Buelta and Mr Dayans, within a list of presumed correspondents of ours to whom to offer our news, the testimony of our existence within the terrestrial social framework is appropriate.

 

The omission of this purpose should not be attributed to forgetfulness, a disparaging attitude or fear of presumed reactions of logical incredulity.

 

But you maintained certain links in an organised network for the analysis of the so-called “unidentified space objects”, with a far from negligible degree of prestige and possibility of access to the media, while our

criterion for social relations with men of EARTH has been to establish connections only with selected individuals placed at different cultural and social levels who, either because of their proven autism or balanced mental reserve, or in other cases because of their low intellectual prestige, did not constitute a presumed risk for us.

 

You yourself can deduce, without more specious arguments, that our mission of study on this solidified globe demands a high degree of secrecy. We believe we maintain a broad margin of safety by not making ourselves known officially, nor providing verifiable proofs that would help the technical government bodies to confirm our existence (the written documents of our provenance are always made with local materials).

 

Any indiscretion by one of your own brothers would, on the other hand, easily be neutralised.

 

These severe measures are in no way an indication of a “plot” on an international scale, nor proof of a presumed perverse intention on the part of my brothers. Have no doubt, Mr Antonio Rivera, that an awareness of our real existence among you would provoke very serious upheavals, whose moral illicitness fits into our respective codes of ethics. We assure you that we have no intention of intervening in the evolutionary flow of your terrestrial political and social framework and that we can provide proof of our aseptic conduct in the course of this provisional coexistence among you.

 

However, other brothers, compatriots of yours, received our news. We understand that in the course of time a leak of such references from the city of Barcelona was inevitable. It was the price of a semi-frustrated attempt to bring together in Madrid a small group of terrestrial men and women in order to test, on a collective micro-scale, the impact that a singular piece of news would provoke on Latin mentalities.
